An Overview of modern Theravāda Schools in Sri Lanka



Although Buddhism was introduced to Ceylon by missionaries sent by Ashoka, over the course of history the buddhist sangha lineage was interupted thus making the re-introduction of an unbroken lineage in the 18th and 19th century nescessary. Below a schematic representation of the present lineages which have their origins in Burma and Thailand.
